Empty Words

Empty words, empty thoughts
Broken pieces, fragments
All the same in nature
All begging for attention
From the tidal drift of memories and
Dreams that pervade.

Look at me! they say
See what I can tell you?
See what I can say?
Sometimes they blow me away
Sometimes they seem like
Just empty words to say

They clamour for attention
Jostling like glass bottles in a crate
Rubbing and banging together
Their vacuous sounds
Shatter nighttime peace
Where is the stillness?

Only words, you say?
How else do you convey?
These thoughts of yours
Won’t go away
If you write them
They will stay

The words take shape
They arrange somehow
Slowly morphing
Organically unfolding
Animated by unseen hands
Unfurled they manifest their secrets
